Must haves

These are the tools I genuinely use and love. All items are linked so you can find them easily in the online shops. Some links are affiliate links*, which means I earn a tiny commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. It’s a lovely way to support Lucky Linen, and I’d only ever recommend things I have actually put in my own sewing basket. If only I could link fabrics on here… it might just be my favourite part of sewing.

This is my trusty sewing buddy. Reliable, straightforward, and strong enough to handle everything from delicate linen to thick denim without breaking a sweat. Perfect for beginners too.

Definitely not a requirement to make your own clothing, but oh so convenient. This machine is used to finish off all of your raw edges to prevent frilling. It makes me feel like a professional when using this. It’s quick, perfectly done, to me it has become indespensable.

Think of it as fabric scissors, but faster. Perfect for when you only have a nap time window to sew… every second counts :-)

A soft tape measure is a must-have for taking body measurements and checking your fabric. I love that mine has both cm and inches on either. So no matter where your pattern is from, you’re always measuring in the right language

Regular pins, extra cute pins or sewing clips are for pinning your fabrics in place so you’ll sew them together perfectly. I have one little container filled with pins on every side of my sewing room so there are enough to grab when I’m working.

Small but mighty. Once you’ve accidentally snipped your own fabric with regular scissors while trimming threads, you’ll understand why these exist. Also, how beautiful are these scissors?

A rotary cutter needs a cutting mat. I went for the biggest size that fits my table, because the less repositioning and fiddling with your fabric, the better. Trust me, size matters here
